KURT RUSSELL PUNKS VAL KILMER & ROBERT DOWNEY JR. TAKES VAL’S CALL IN THE JOHN!
The first time Val Kilmer visited the Mark & Brian Show was pretty non-eventful. He had a cold but plowed through the interview like a pro and as they say in the movie Casablanca, it was the start of a beautiful friendship.
His second time on the show was hilarious. He right into the Mark & Brian theme of just going with whatever happens.
But it was the third time that was the charm and went down as a classic moment in the history of The Mark and Brian Show.
The interview started like most others with Mark, Brian and Val Kilmer joking, laughing and just having a good time. The hotline rang, I picke it up and asked who was calling, Only to find out it’s Kurt Russell! He was listening to the show and wanted to get in on the action and play a joke on Val. He wanted to use the name Mike, sound a little gay and just drool over Val and tell him how much he loves him and his outfits. Of course, I can’t let anyone in on this. So when we go to a commercial I go into the studio and whisper in Mark’s ear, “After the break go to the hotline and put Mike on the air with Val.” When he asked me why all I said was, “Trust me!”
When we come back from commercials, Mark says, “Val, Mike is on the line and has a question for you.” Mike, aka Kurt comes and does his thing, praising Val and asking who handled his wardrobe in the movie ‘Tombstone.’ Val then starts talking about the film when Mike (Kurt) interrupts and says, “But how did you like working with me?” Val realizes he’s been duped and says ‘you little…’ The jabs and laughs continue, Kurt says goodbye and we go to another break.
After the commercial, Mark promotes the fact that Val is currently working on a film with Robert Downey Jr. Val being Val and now in a prankster mood, says, “let’s call Robert.” We have him call from the studio line so it can go on the air, live. Val tells Robert he’s on the radio with Mark and Brian and asks him to play nice. A few minutes in Robert says he’s in the bathroom. What comes after has to be heard to really appreciate how funny this all went down.
To put this into words how classically funny this was is impossible. Click this link and hear for yourself.
